The wealthy wife of jeweller Heinrich Köchert had taken piano lessons from Wolf, and their shared love of music blossomed into a deep friendship – a spiritual kindship – that lasted for decades. They exchanged over 250 letters on feelings, poetry, creative crises, personal reflections and more.
In 1911, he exhibited his artistic works for the first time, together with Oskar Kokoschka and Egon Schiele, and also worked as a book illustrator using his characteristic woodcut technique. Grete Wiesenthal, his first wife, often posed as his model.
Whether in the Votive Church (Votivkirche) in Vienna or in the Sistine Chapel in Rome, these Köchert works are still held in honour today.

For Köchert – the Imperial and Royal Court jewellers to the Habsburgs – it was somewhat of a challenge to transform the delicate feather into something precious and enduring.
